Graduate Clinical Internships
Graduate students pursuing a counseling or marriage and family therapy degree may be considered for a limited number of internship placements.
At JJC, internship is more than completing required hours. It is an opportunity to integrate graduate education with real-world clinical practice, develop clinical reasoning, receive meaningful supervision and feedback, and grow into a professional identity as a clinician.

- Clinical reasoning and case conceptualization
- Trauma-informed and relational clinical skills
- Professional communication and documentation
- Experience with the responsibilities and rhythms of private practice
- Confidence in receiving and applying clinical supervision and feedback
- A developing professional identity as a clinician
As a faith-centered practice, we also value the opportunity for students to integrate their professional development with their gifts, values, and sense of calling to serve others through the counseling profession.
Internship Structure
JJC internships are unpaid educational experiences. Internship expectations, clinical responsibilities, supervision requirements, schedule, and duration are coordinated according to the student’s university requirements, developmental readiness, and JJC’s clinical and supervisory capacity.
Because continuity of care is important to the therapeutic relationship, JJC generally seeks an academic-year commitment from graduate interns.
At this time, graduate interns must arrange required clinical supervision separately unless otherwise specified in writing.
Application & Placement Timeline
Students are encouraged to begin the process early. University requirements and site-approval deadlines vary by program, and some universities require students to have a secured and approved internship site before their university deadline. Students are responsible for confirming their program’s requirements and deadlines.
The following are JJC’s internal application and placement timelines:

After submitted materials have been reviewed, selected applicants will be invited to a consultation to discuss the internship opportunity and determine whether JJC can provide an appropriate training experience.
